Late Registration /Modified Tryout

Player Placement Policies & Procedures

** Final placement of any player that has not completed the normal tryout process must be approved by the Executive. **

If time considerations do not allow for the executive board to consider the matter the Commissioner shall using these procedures to rule on placement of the player(s) in question.

Players registering late or unable to participate in the normal tryout procedure shall be placed by the following considerations:

Tryout Process Stage:

  • If player can still be evaluated fairly (70% or more) of potential tryout ice times then the normal evaluation process will be followed.
  • If a player attends some tryouts but has missed or will miss more than 30% of potential ice times then executive will rule on placement potential.
  • Player will be placed in any level/tier only if demonstrated abilities during the available tryout procedures clearly indicate player to be in top third of the chosen level pooling (with the exception being level/tier III).
  • Consideration may be given at the Executive’s discretion if player’s demonstrated ability is clearly above the level/tier III pool to placement in level/tier II.

Players registering or available after the tryouts have been completed will be placed based upon the following criteria:

  • Available space.
  • No player already placed on a team and contacted by his coach shall be “bumped” to a lower level.
  • Reason for registering late/not completing normal tryout procedures.

Injury/Illness:

  • Consider the level played last year
    • Within current age grouping:
    • Player may be asked to demonstrate on ice abilities* or may be evaluated  by use of information from last year’s coach and/or executive member(s) familiar with players abilities.
    • Player must clearly evaluate above the lowest 20% of abilities in the given pool available to remain in level/tier played last season. (Subject to Section 1 - available space.)
    •
    • If moving up an age division:

§ Player may be asked to demonstrate on ice abilities or may be evaluated  by use of information from last year’s coach and/or executive member(s) familiar with players abilities. (Subject to Section 1 - available space.)

§ Player will be placed in any level/tier only if demonstrated abilities/evaluation clearly indicate player to be in top third of the chosen level pooling (with the exception being level/tier III).

§ Consideration may be given at the Executive’s discretion if player’s demonstrated ability is clearly above the level/tier III to placement in level/tier II. (Subject to Section 1 - available space.)

Trying Out at Higher Level

·         Players trying out elsewhere are encouraged to register with the zone as well.  Players failing to register with the zone accept the possibility that playing at the highest level within the zone may not be available to them.

·         Players returning to the zone after tryouts at a higher level (example: Tier I, AAA, JB etc.) can be considered for placement at the highest available level.  (Subject to Section 1 - available space.)

·         Coaches may not avoid contacting players to hold a spot in anticipation of players becoming available from other programs.

·         Coaches may not hold spots or reduce the size of their Teams in anticipation of players becoming available from other programs.

Did not Wish/Failed to Register at Regular Registration

·         Players not wishing to register at the normal times accept the possibility of playing at a level lower than they may have attained through the evaluation process.

·         Player will be placed in any level/tier only if demonstrated abilities during a modified tryout procedure clearly indicate player to be in top third of the chosen level pooling (with the exception being level/tier III).  (Subject to Section 1 - available space.)

Registered but did not Attend Tryouts

·         Players who register and are given tryout ice times but simply fail to attend for reasons other than those listed above shall be placed in tier III.

Other

·         Any circumstances not covered in these procedures will be ruled on by the Executive using the principles of these procedures as a guideline.

·         Modified tryouts will be at the discretion of the Executive and may include any combination of: executive members, division coaches, other available coaches or evaluators.

Thank you for your cooperation.
