 SMHA Saskatoon Initiation Jamboree

The Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA) and the Saskatoon Minor Hockey Association (SMHA) would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the Al Anderson’s Source for Sports SMHA Initiation Jamboree. As you may be aware, Hockey Canada developed the Initiation Program to make children’s first contact with hockey a safe and positive experience.

The premise of the Jamboree is two-fold: To provide a positive, enjoyable experience for all Initiation players, as well as an educational opportunity for parents. In meeting the first objective, a detailed on-ice and off-ice curriculum has been developed for players.  At the same time, parents participate in a practical workshop based on three topics, including; Role of the Coach, Role of the Hockey Parent, and an information session about the Initiation Program. The on-ice session for the players focuses on the development of fundamental skills through the fun-based approach to learning consistent with Initiation Program objectives.

The underlying theme is that parents and their kids spend a day together learning about hockey and having fun doing it. The parents’ classroom session is not a boring opportunity for the SHA to tell parents what to do and not to do, but rather an opportunity for parents to learn about what their children are being taught, what is expected of them, and finally, what they can expect from the SHA and from the SMHA.

Date: Saturday, October 5, 2013

Where: Cosmo Civic Centre

What to Bring: Full hockey equipment including stick and runners for the off-ice activities

Please fill in the registration form: You can leave it with your zone IP Coordinator @ your zone registration, mail, fax or scan and email it the SMHA or drop it at the SMHA office where there is a 24-hour mail slot in the front door.
There is no charge to enter the Al Anderson Source for Sports Initiation Jamboree.

Space will be limited so please complete and return your registration form as soon as possible. You will be notified by your Zone IP Coordinator of your acceptance and the exact schedule for the Jamboree. If registration numbers are greater than the program can accommodate, priority will be given to first-year IP players.  A draw would be done if numbers were still too large.

NOTE:
For the initiation program to be successful, it is mandatory that both the child and the parent(s) attend the jamboree together.
